screwtape letters amazing!

Just returned from seeing C.S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters in Manhattan, with Shanti. It was a perfect autumn day and although it was a gridlock alert day, our driving was fairly unhindered.

I had never been to the Theatre at St. Clements. The theater was very intimate. In the 3rd row we were about 20 feet from Max during much of the performance.

If you haven't read the book, do it. It's a very unusual view of humankind, through the letters of a tempter.

The staging, set and effects were great. Max was superb, as expected and his co-performer, Karen Eleanor Wight was limber, androgynous and other-worldly. The play consisted of a prologue and the main play. It was an uninterrupted 90 minutes in hell. So powerful. So faith building. So thought provoking.

If you ever have the opportunity to see the play or buy the DVD, do it. To see about 4 minutes of the play, go to screwtapeonstage.com and click the video link beneath the photo.
