a gift from wonderful max mclean

I was so happy to receive a flyer from Max's ministry today. Besides various audio Bibles and classics of the faith, once again he is making The Gift of God, HIS CHRISTMAS STORY available as a free download. If you don't already have this beautiful, Scriptural telling of the Christmas story, or if you have never heard Max read or see him act, you really should grab this download. There are no strings attached. No one will bombard you with emails or anything else. I have had a CD of this for some years. One of our audio Bibles came with it as a free extra. I have the entire audio Bible on my BlackBerry, for on-demand listening, but I didn't think of putting this file on it. With 13 days until Christmas, I think I will.

The Gift of God, HIS CHRISTMAS STORY
Here's the description of the MP3, from Max's web site: When we hear the Christmas story what do we feel? Is it just a nice story? Well, yes. But it is also telling us that a huge event has just taken place; an event so big that it changes everything. Why? Because the infinite, eternal being who created all things decided to pay us a visit, knock on our front door, get to know us and find out about our hurts and our pains.

Feel the weight of this extraordinary event in this new 25-minute scripture CD that explores the size and magnitude of Christmas. Make this a part of your holiday celebrations.

you can lead an athiest to evidence but you can't make him think

This is the inaugural book review on this blog. From time to time, I will briefly review books I have read. (With my schedule, it will be infrequently.) I have read through Ray Comfort's book, You Can Lead an Atheist to Evidence but You Can't Make Him Think, twice. It's a small, short book of 133 pages, published by WND Books. I have to admit, from the outset, that I like Ray Comfort and admire his testimony and how he lives his faith daily. I frequently listen to him on the Internet and have downloaded several of his mp3s. That said, I can't claim to be completely impartial, but I can review the book.

The 7 chapters of this book all contain posts by atheists to Ray's blog, Atheist Central and his replies, sorted by topic. If you are familiar with Ray's Kiwi accent, you can just hear him saying, the blogged replies to skeptics' comments. Ray has a beautiful spirit and a great sense of humor, so the material is extremely readable, always sage and a bit entertaining.

I picked up the book because I am always eager to have defenses for what I believe. (But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR INTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame. 1 Peter 3: 14 - 16)

More and more, evolution (which goes counter to the rules of physics and thermodynamics) is being touted as truth, rather than the contrivance of a miserable, racist. More and more, the people I encounter are embracing mystical false religions. More and more youth I teach have been told Jesus of Nazareth is like Zeus or Aphrodite, just another myth, not a historical Man who walked the dusty roads of Israel 2000 years ago.

Creation screams that there is a Creator. Take a look at a spider in its web, or a giraffe bending down to drink with a valve in its head that prevents all the blood from rushing down and causing it to pass out, or a bumble bee that shouldn't be able to fly. Or, if that's too much effort, think about the complexity of the information in your DNA. Information needs a Creator of information.

Ray's scholarly scientific knowledge, intimate familiarity with the Bible and eloquence are comprised in an informative and delightful read for anyone who witnesses.
